Just one of those flippin' mornings.

AFC Waverton 2 - Upton 15

and then the referee blew the whistle to end what had been a dismal morning for the girls.

MOM - Kiera Berry and for Upton the impressive Ira Temperal.

Waverton goalscorers - Nicola and Kiera

Well done girls, you all never stopped trying. Upton are a good side and some of the goals conceded were very difficult to stop. These things happen, just forget about today and let's work hard in training on Wednesday and be all set to get back to winning ways next Saturday.

Training this Wednesday 5:30-6:30 at Christleton. Cost £2 per player. We will review at the end of December but can only keep training if we have enough girls down each week to make it financially viable and for the coaches time.

Next game away next Saturday at Wallasey Wanderers at the Delph, Wallasey ko 9:30.

Game this Saturday v Upton

First home game for a few weeks takes place this Saturday when we welcome Upton to Waverton. Meet at 9:00 for a 9:30 ko.

7 players have signed in so we should be buzzing, especially following our demolition of the mighty Ridgewood Rangers last Saturday. Another win and we'll be challenging the top teams in the League.

Help from parents with the setting up appreciated, but the u16s will be on after us, so nets etc can be left up.

We'll see you all on Saturday.

Five Alive

Ridgewood Rangers 1 - AFC Waverton 5

The winning streak continued with a confident display against Ridgewood Rangers ending in a 5-1 victory with four goals from Caitlin and one from Kiera.

A sudden downpour on arrival at Ridgewood Park had all the girls running back for the protection of the cars. The pitch was wet and muddy but declared playable. The home side had made the pitch shorter to avoid a big wet patch at one end meaning the playing area was nearly square.

With 5 mins to ko only 5 players were present but then Caitlin, Kiera and Ellie R appeared, the latter two being delayed on the road. The referee had locked himself out of his car meaning Graham from Ridgewood took charge in the middle.

The team lined up with fully weather proofed Cara in goal, Emma and Ellie M at the back, Kiera in the centre of the midfield with the little 'L's Laura and Lily either side of her, and Caitlin up front. Ellie R was the super sub ready to be unleashed after about 10 mins.

Right from the start, Waverton were on top with some good possession and moves. After about 10 minutes Caitlin put the yellow shirts ahead picking up a loose ball and smacking it right down the middle of the goal. Another Caitlin goal and one from Kiera took us into half time with a 3-0 advantage. Kiera's goal came when she ran from the halfway line and with options either side in the shape of available and waiting yellow shirts, she decided to have a pop herself and what a great goal it was, spinning across the line off the inside of the post.

Ellie Riste , on the left of midfield, went close after a great run and Lily nearly got on the score sheet too.

With the Ridgewood Park wind behind us in the second half there was bound to be more goals in it, but it was the Rangers who got the next one as they outnumbered Waverton on a break and Cara was left helpless. A well deserved goal from the Ridgewood girls. Caitlin though would score another two at the other end to put the tie beyond Ranger's reach, one following great work from Lily and the other through fantastic play from Laura. With five minutes left Emma was thrown up front in search of another goal but despite her determination she couldn't get on the scoresheet. Lily had a great looping long range shot but it was well saved by the goalkeeper.

Four goals from Caitlin puts her in a challenging position in the goals chart, not bad for a player who lives 200 miles away and can only play every other week.

At the back Ellie Mageean was superb and always in control. Defenders never get picked for MOM awards by the opposition do they?

No handballs, no calls for a replay.

MOM - Caitlin, for Ridgewood Rangers - Molly Brewster.

Well done and thanks to Graham and the Ridgewood girls for their very kind comments and wishes at the end of the game.

No training this week, but the following 3 Wednesdays training will be 5:30-6:30 (as long as we get enough girls down)

Ridgewood Rangers game on

All systems go for some footie action tomorrow. We have 8 girls confirmed and Ridgewood have confirmed tonight that the game is on so clean your boots, get out the wintergreen (ask your dads) and get an early night. The referee will look at the pitch in the morning but as of tonight no problems are expected.

Ridgewood play at Ridgewood Park on Fisher Lane in Pensby. There are two options to get there from the Chester area. Either:

take the Parkgate Road through to Heswall and turn right in Heswall village (before you get to Tesco) onto the B5138 Pensby Road. Follow that for a couple of miles past the Harvest Mouse PH into Pensby village and turn left into Fishers Lane before the parade of shops. The field is on the right behind the houses on Fishers Lane. Either park on the road just after Ridgemere Road and take the cut through onto the field or carry on and the park appears on the right 100yards down the road and there is a car park and then walk across the field.

or

take the M53 to J4. Turn left on to Brimstage Road and then after a couple of miles turn right on to Whitehouse Lane which will take you through to Barnston Road. Turn right and follow for a mile. Turn left onto Gills Lane and then follow this to Pensby where if you go straight on at the shops you are on Fishers Lane and field will be off this road on the right as above.

Any problems let me know on 07901 552261

See you all there at 12:00 noon.

Game v Ridgewood Saturday - Training cancelled next week

On Saturday we play against Ridgewood Rangers away in Pensby. Kick off is 12:30. Can all players please confirm whether they can or can't play. Olivia is unavailable. Directions to follow.

David Harker has tonight cancelled next week's booking on the pitch at Christleton as none of the u16s will be available and only Kiera and Cara turned up for training this week. The pitch is £21 each session and if only 2 turned up next week it would cost them a fortune.

The next training session will be on Wed 2 December, 5:30 at the Sports Centre. Cost £2 per player to be collected on the night.

URGENT IBRY GAME CALLED OFF!

The Irby game was called off on Friday evening because of the waterlogged pitches at Waverton. So the Crocky Trail trip has had to be postponed too.

Mid-week training this wednesday at Christleton Sports Centre 5:30pm-6:30pm. There will a cost which will probably work out similar to last year where parents paid £10 to cover a number of weeks. This will depend on how many girls we have attending as we have to cover the cost of hiring the pitch between us and the u16s.

Have a good weekend!

Waverton in 9th place out of 13

The current league table can be found by clicking on this link

Irby's first team lead the League with 7 wins and 1 draw followed closely by Wallasey Wanderers White. Greenleas and Wallasey Wanderers Red sit just behind the front two. Waverton lie in 9th place just behind Birkenhead Youth. Behind us lie Wirral Hawks, Ridgewood Rangers, this week's opponents Irby Colts and finally Heygarth at the bottom.

We play Irby at home a week on Saturday and they will obviously be a tough test. We have beeb beaten by both Wallasey Wanderers white and Greenleas but gave the other Wanderers side a good run for their money when they came to Waverton. So we sit within a group of teams in the middle and we can certainly compete very well with them. If we play as well as we have done in some games more often and get a full team out more often we might even really challenge the top teams. So lots to play for! Go Waverton!

Training this Wednesday is CANCELLED

UPDATE - TRAINING CANCELLED UNTIL WED 18 NOVEMBER AS THE PITCH IS NOT AVAILABLE

Midweek training switches to Wednesday for the moment as we move onto the outdoor pitch at Christleton Sports Centre. This is on the left hand side of the drive as you go past the entrance to the hall/pool. Training is from 5:30 -6:30 and we will share with the u16s until we can find something more suitable. 5:30 is a bit early for both coaches and players but its the only thing on offer at the moment.

The surface is hard (we know we have fallen on it) but at least we should see each other. Trainers are needed. There will be a small charge but we are waiting for further information from the Director of Girls Football, Sir David Harker.

Saturday's game is away at Irby Colts. Last year we played Irby Colts in the Presidents Cup Final at u12 level and won, but we don't know what the u14 team is like this season.

The game has been confirmed tonight so its on. Directions to follow. The ground is opposite Irby Methodist Church on Mill Hill Road in Irby. Postcode is CH61 4XG. Lifts are on offer, just let us know.
