Dancing on Ice

AFC Waverton 2 - Greenleas 8

The overnight frost at Waverton had put the game in doubt, but the u12s went ahead and played on the pitch at 9:30 so things looked good for our 11 o'clock kick off. As it turned out the pitch was still very hard at 10:45 and both goalmouths were treacherous. After a pitch inspection and a discussion between the coaches and the referee, we decided to play on the shortened pitch with the small goals.

Greenleas are a strong side of Y9 girls and straight from the kick off they peppered Cara's goal, but Kiera was unlucky not to open the scoring on about 5 mins. Greenleas took the lead and then added to it soon after with Chelsey Crook looking a handful for Ellie and Aimee.

Following a great piece of football down the left, the ball spun towards the goal and Captain Emma bravely ran in and headed the ball home. 2-1 and game on. The conditions certainly didn't spoil the game too much as there was some good football played. Busy Lily replaced the busy Laura down the left and then Kiera had to come off for a while following a very brave sliding tackle on the only patch of ice on the whole pitch. Greenleas got a third, an excellent well taken goal from Chelsey Crook with a low drive, and then added a fourth just before half time.

For much of the second half there were no further goals but it was an end to end affair. Cara's long kicks were setting up chances for Kiera and Nicola and it was from of these that Nicola latched onto the ball and despatched a thumping shot into the net. Greenleas scored a few more goals near to the end including a couple of unlucky ones for Cara who made some some excellent saves thoroughout the game despite suffering from a cold. Once again Ellie Mageean was first class at the back helped by the impressive Aimee.

MOM Lily Worden, for Greenleas Chelsey Crook.

Training this Monday with Robbie 6-7 in the Gym at the High School, cost £2. Just pay and play. No training on Wednesdays for the moment but as soon as we can we'll revert back to outdoor training for the u14s only at Waverton. This will probably be in about a months time.

Game v Greenleas on Saturday

After last Saturday's victory, we hope to keep up the form against the Greenleas first team. In October we lost to Greenleas in Wallasey but then we only had 6 players! This Saturday, at home and with a full team, let's show them what we can really do.

Kick off is at 11:00 and all players are asked to meet at 10:30.

It is a real struggle to get everything sorted for the kick off on match days. The goals have to be set up, corner flags put out, the respect barriers put up, the pitch to be checked, the opposition to be met, briefed and league cards exchanges, the referee to be contacted and paid (in cash!), the players to be warmed up, the tactics to be explained, the starting 7 to be chosen and positions sorted, the captain to be chosen and introduced to the referee and the first aid kit and water bottles to be brought and taken to the half way line.

And then everything has to be put away again after. This is too much for one person and the u12s and u16s have a team of parents helping each Saturday so the coach can concentrate on getting the team prepared. Offers from parents to take on the responsibility of getting the pitch ready and everything put away at the end would make match days easier for all of us.

Birkenhead Youth game looks on

Birkenhead Youth have today confirmed the game for Saturday. It is to be played at the Delph which we are told is 'playable'. All players to meet there at 9:00am ready for a 9:30 kick off.

We can exclusively reveal that the mystery coach is Simon, who will be up all Friday night working out formations, game plans and directions to Wallasey.

Anybody requiring a lift please let Mike know on 07901552261

Have a great game and bring back the points!

The name of the field is Withensfield Playing Field and is on Rake Lane in Wallasey. Postcode is CH45 5DP

Click on the link below to take you to details and a map of The Delph.

The best way is to take the M53 right to its end (past junction 1) following signs for the Wallasey Tunnel and All Docks and then when the road splits follow the signs for All Docks and make sure that you do not instead take the Tunnel lane. It is well sign posted but you need to be aware as the split happens quickly and you need to move over lanes to the right. You come down to a roundabout. Turn left, go straight on over lights and follow the road into the Liscard Village centre. Its a one way system, follow it left and then right. Follow the road, it bends slightly left and ignore turning off left or right. This is Rake Lane. The field is on the right a little way along this road.

Park on Rake lane and go through the gate between the houses onto the field.

Outdoor football surely not?/Coaches do a runner

Hope Kiera, Lily, Emma, Ellie R and Cara enjoyed the training session in the gym. Bit cosy wasn't it?

This Saturday we might, just might, possibly, potentially, play a game of football. We are due to play away against Birkenhead Youth Ladies with a 9:30ko. At the moment we don't know where it is but suspect it is somewhere in the Birkenhead area. So meet somewhere there at 9am. Further details to follow, as soon as we 'ave 'em, you will.

A new coach will be in charge for the game as both Mike and Heather are unavailable. We can't reveal too much about this mystery coach, except he/she has an excellent track record, has never been sacked from any coaching job ever, has never managed a team that has been relegated and is not a bad player him/herself. Watch this space!

Quaser, training and Toffees trip

Hope all the girls all enjoyed the Quaser session.

Training this Wednesday is not affected by the weather so definitely on. 6-7 in the gym at Christleton High School. Heather is running the session. Cost £2 per player payable on the night.

Go through the main entrance and go past the main reception. David Harker will be around to help direct everyone towards the gym.

Next Saturday we play away at Birkenhead Youth Ladies with a 9:30 ko. Further details to follow.

On Thursday February 11 we are thinking of going to watch the FA Womens Cup Final Everton v Leeds at Rochdale AFCs ground. We will get discounted tickets. This is a chance to see two top womens sides (not as good as Birmingham City of course!) in a final. We will have space in cars. Anybody interested please see Mike or Simon.

It's a snow go on Saturday

Wirral Council has today called off all games that were due to take place this weekend on Council pitches. So our game against Wirral Hawks has fallen foul of the weather as it was due to be played at Victoria Park in Tranmere.

Given the weather, we will not train, so enjoy another Saturday off.

Training this Wednesday is CANCELLED

We have made an early decision to cancel this week's training at Christleton in view of the weather forecast.

We are looking to try to find an indoor venue for the remainder of the winter as the pitch at Christleton is not the best surface and does get unplayable quite often.

We"ll keep you posted regarding the game at the weekend.

Happy sledging!
