New goals and gloves

Upton Fc 9 - AFC Waverton 1

At least we know what size goals we are supposed to be playing with, but it doesn't make it easier to keep the ball out. Upton scored some cracking goals but also were lucky with some of them including one which just rolled across Caras's line on the wrong side. Cara's new goalkeeping gloves could do little to stop some of the goals.

The U16s game was still being played when we arrived at Overchurch School and thanks to everyone arriving on time so we could have a proper warm up. This is important to avoid muscle strains and is more important in this age group than in the under 12s.

Some of the girls were recognisable from the strong Upton FC side from last years u12s including Ira who was a constant threat. 1-0 up in the first 10 minutes the home side's advantage was cancelled out through a Nicola goal after just coming on as a sub. Upton got back into it and scored 4 more before half time including a very well taken team goal. In the second half they added another 4 but late on Waverton had a revival and Nicola and Ellie Riste were both unlucky not to get on to the score sheet.

Playing as a team, keeping the shape and not just watching the ball but watching players drifting past us are the things we need to work on, but it will come. Keep your heads up girls, you will learn from playing in this League.

MOM for AFC Waverton Nicola Jones, for Upton FC Abby Bateman
